ABOUT THE OUTPOST
A place to look closer.
Films, music and objects—connected by the people and decisions behind them.
Why this archive exists
Carpenter Outpost brings John Carpenter’s world together: the films, the music, the collaborators and the objects that carry their history. It is a place for the first encounter and the hundredth viewing, with detailed studies that take you beyond the familiar stories.
Explore all eighteen directed theatrical features alongside television, student films, writing, producing and music. Follow a single film in depth or move through the connections between performers, craftspeople, ideas and recordings.
How we work
The research draws on production documents, interviews, contemporary criticism and surviving editions. Source libraries accompany the studies, giving readers a direct route to the people and records behind the story.
Collaboration is central to the archive. Writers, actors, cinematographers, designers, editors, effects artists and musicians receive the attention their work deserves.
The Outpost keeps growing through new discoveries, deeper studies and contributions from readers. The update log records substantial additions and corrections.
The museum and our shops
Our museum brings the films into your collection through our affiliated shops. Find artist prints, posters and Japanese chirashi at Rare Prints & Posters, and VHS and LaserDisc editions at Rare VHS & LaserDiscs.
Prices are in US dollars. Follow an item to its shop for checkout, shipping and order support.
